CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine (AP) — Police say eight people were taken to a hospital after a van crashed into the back of school bus that was carrying special-needs students in Cape Elizabeth.

Police Chief Peter Gleeson said the accident happened shortly before 8 a.m. Friday on Route 77.

Gleeson said the van driver required medical attention and was taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland. Six students of middle-school age were also taken to the hospital, but mainly as a precautionary measure because of their disabilities.

Gleeson said a pregnant aide who was on the bus was also taken to the hospital as a precaution.
