BRYANT POND – Kathleen Spaulding Bean, 89, of Bryant Pond, died Wednesday, June 3, at the Ledgeview Living Center in West Paris.

She was born in Perham on November 28, 1919, the daughter of Albert and Bertha (Prescott) Spaulding.

She attended the first eight grades in Perham. She was a graduate of Caribou High School in 1936, and of Aroostook State Normal School in 1939. She received the degree of Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Maine in 1942, in the field of literature and music education.

At U of Maine she met, and in 1943, married Bryant C. Bean. Bryant later became Dr. Bryant C. Bean; they had been married 36 years when he died suddenly in 1979.

Kathleen taught 25 years in elementary grades in Caribou, Houlton and Bangor. She was a member of MTA, NEA, NAMI, OES Jefferson Chapter #89; Woodstock Historical Society, Bethel Historical Society, Bethel Senior Citizens, and Locke Mills Union Church.

She is survived by three daughters: Kathleen Richardson and husband Jack of Paris; Sara Kolb and husband Rick, of Centreville, Va.; and Ruth MacBean and husband Mike Emery of Burke, Va.; and two sons, Francis A. Bean of Norway, and Christopher B. Bean and wife Mary of Buxton; seven grandchildren, Christopher Richardson, Becky Richardson, Kathy Taylor, Kim Strickland, Christopher J. Bean, Julia Bean, Alec Emery; and 8 great-grandchildren, Abby, Emily and Anna Richardson; Robert and Elena Taylor; James, Kassidy and Bryant Strickland.
