LISBON – The Town Council on Tuesday adopted the 2009-10 municipal budget of $6,745,945. It’s 9 percent less than last year.
The spending plan is based on $2,764,368 in anticipated revenues, which are down by $700,000 from last year. The loss, Town Manager Steve Eldridge said, is due to less state revenue sharing and an anticipated reduction in excise taxes.
Last year’s budget was $7,389,047 and revenues were $3,466,540.
There will be no job losses because town employees previously agreed to a wage freeze and changes in their health insurance package which resulted in $176,000 in savings.
Councilors commended employees for their decision.
In other action, Hahnel Bros. Co. of Lewiston was awarded the contract for roof work at the treatment plant garage on its low bid of $13,980. Nason Mechanical Systems of Auburn was awarded the contract to provide an air conditioner in the server room on its bid of $4,645.
Jim Wentworth of the state Department of Transportation presented an overview of the King Road bridge project, which will be going out to bid within a week. He said it should be completed by October.
The council will be conducting interviews with three applicants for the 30-hour-per-week tax assessor position. Longtime Tax Assessor Gerry Samson submitted his resignation, effective May 22.
The resignation of Cheryl Haggerty as an alternate member of the Planning Board was accepted.
The town has entered a new agreement to share animal control services with the towns of Sabattus and Bowdoin.
