LEWISTON – William James Smith, 52, of 74 Oak St., Lewiston, died suddenly in his sleep on Tuesday, June 2.

He was born in Derby, Conn., on Jan. 23, 1957, to William and Michelina Smith of Connecticut.

Known to most as Bill, he was a loving husband, son, father and grandfather. He was educated at Ansonia, Conn., schools and spent most of his life as a wise philosopher. A lover of music, family, friends, animals and children, Bill will be remembered for his selfless generosity. He had a love in his heart for all living things, and everyone who knew Bill loved him dearly. He enjoyed the simple things in life, like dinner and a movie and spending time with friends and family, but he loved nothing more than playing with his baby granddaughter.

Bill will be deeply missed and he leaves behind a large family: his parents, William and Michelina Smith of Shelton, Conn.; two sisters, Donna Smith of Ansonia, Conn., and Cheryl Smith of Daytona, Fla.; Bill’s loving partner, wife and best friend, Patricia Ann DeMayo of Lewiston; their daughters, Amy M. DeMayo of Auburn and her two children, Trish and Danika DeMayo, Shari DeMayo of Buckfield and her two children, Jesse and Trever, Jackie DeMayo and two children, Andrew and Makayla, and his youngest, Nicole Lanzieri and a tiny angel, Billy Jr.
