RUMFORD – The amount of operating time for the No. 15 paper machine at NewPage Corp. has been reduced by 50 percent.

But the cutback has not resulted in any layoffs, so far, said Local 900 Union President Matt Bean.
The 20 people who were displaced by the reduction in operating time are filling in for employees who are taking summer vacations, Bean said.
Both No. 10 and No. 12 machines are still running round the clock. All three machines came back on line full-time on May 19 after a week-long mill-wide maintenance shutdown.
