BREWER (AP) – A second set of massive steel modules to be used in an oil refinery expansion in Texas leaves this week from a plant in Brewer where they were manufactured.
The modules will begin being loaded Monday onto a 354-foot barge at the Cianbro Corp. Eastern Manufacturing Facility.
Cianbro spokesman Alan Grover tells the Bangor Daily News the barge is scheduled to leave Friday, guided by a tugboat for the trip to Port Arthur, Texas, where they will be employed as part of a $7 billion expansion.
Cianbro was hired by Motiva Enterprises to build 53 modules in all. The first shipment left Maine in March.
The modules, which can be up to six stories tall and weigh up to 700 tons, are too big to travel by road or rail.
