PARIS – A state prosecutor began to establish a known time line Tuesday morning in the shooting deaths of two men last July.
The testimonies took place on the second day of the trial of 33-year-old Duane Christopher Waterman of Sumner. Waterman is charged with the murders of 50-year-old Timothy Mayberry and 43-year-old Todd Smith. The bodies of the two men were found at Mayberry’s home on July 26.
Dr. Margaret Greenwald, the state’s chief medical examiner, said both men died of injuries to vital organs after they were shot in the chest and abdomen. Greenwald said three bullets were found in Mayberry’s body and two bullets were found in Smith’s body.
Two witnesses said that Mayberry picked up Smith from Paris around 7 p.m. on July 25 to watch movies at his house. Two other witnesses testified to hearing possible gunshots near Mayberry’s Tuelltown Road residence later that evening.
Waterman’s former Front Street neighbor said Waterman drove up to his house around 10:15 p.m., entered the house after telling an unidentified person in his Jeep to “hurry up,” and drove off shortly after.
More witnesses will take the stand Tuesday afternoon.
