PARIS – Work is progressing to rebuild Yianni’s House of Pizza on Main Street after a pickup truck plowed through the building Saturday, destroying some of the interior and narrowly missing an employee.
The business is expected to reopen by the end of the week.
“The carpenters say probably by Friday,” owner Ioannis Papanikolaou of Paris said Wednesday as workers rebuilt the wall and two restrooms destroyed in the accident.
No one was injured when the vehicle driven by a New Hampshire man crashed through the shop, destroying the restroom that an employee had just left.
Wayne Whitney, 55, of North Haverhill, N.H., was arrested at about 4 p.m. and charged with operating a motor vehicle after suspension of license, Paris Police officer Nate Bowie said. Whitney was attempting to turn his truck around in the parking lot when the accelerator got stuck under the floor mat.
Police estimated about $25,000 in damage, including $8,000 to the 2004 Dodge pickup truck.
