AUGUSTA (AP) – The Augusta State Airport was closed temporarily after the pilot of a light plane forgot to put his landing gear down while coming in from a training flight.
Bill Perry, owner of airport operator Maine Instrument Flight, likened the accident to “a fender-bender” and said no one was hurt. Perry told the Kennebec Journal that the four-seater Beechcraft Sierra was on a training flight with a pilot and a student when it landed with its gear up shortly after 10 a.m. Tuesday.
He said federal authorities had to give clearance to remove the plane from the runway.
He said the Federal Aviation Administration office in Portland had to give clearance to remove the disabled plane from the runway.
