PORTLAND (AP) – A 7-year-old Iraqi girl is back home after spending nearly a year in the Portland area while undergoing medical treatment for a head wound caused by a sniper’s bullet.
The Portland Press Herald on Wednesday quoted the Maine couple who hosted Noora Afif Abdulhameed and her father as saying they made it back safety to the Iraqi city of Heet.
Susi Eggenberger and Doug Rogers of Arundel, who helped bring Noora to Portland, said in an e-mail to the Iraqis’ Maine friends that father and daughter are “exhausted but delighted to be back together with their family.”
Noora was supposed to stay in the U.S. three to six months to have her shattered skull repaired, but problems with the medical procedures stretched her stay to 11 months.
