PORTLAND (AP) – Maine syrup producers had a banner year, with production going up 65 percent from last year.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture said favorable weather conditions helped Maine syrup production reach a record 395,000 gallons this year, up from 240,000 gallons in 2008.

Nationally, syrup production rose 22 percent from 2008.

Maine was the No. 2 syrup-producing state this year.
