MORRILL (AP) – A Morrill man has died after his canoe flipped while he was fishing in the town.

The Maine Warden Service says 23-year-old Jared Peterson and a friend were tossed into Cross Pond Friday evening when their canoe capsized in windy weather.

The other man, 23-year-old Johnny Dayton of Belfast, was able to swim to shore.

The Warden Service says Peterson told Dayton he could not swim. Peterson’s body was found Saturday morning.

Investigators say neither man wore a life jacket and that alcohol likely contributed to the accident.
