ISLESBORO, Maine (AP) — A single-engine plane crashed near the end of the airstrip upon takeoff on Islesboro, but the pilot walked away without any injuries.
Victor Hall of Rockland reported that his Penobscot Island Air Service plane lost power on takeoff and went down in some trees shortly before noon on Monday.
The Bangor Daily News said the plane was demolished, with one wing ripped off and the other wing clipped.
Hall had just delivered mail to the island and was preparing to return to Rockland when the plane went down.
Penobscot Island Air President Kevin Waters said it’s too soon to say for sure what caused the crash, but it sounded like it might be a mechanical problem.
