Playing for contra dance
The French-Canadian folk quartet Gadelle will provide the music for an evening of contra dancing from 8 to 11:30 p.m. Friday, June 19, in Callahan Hall at the Lewiston Public Library. Playing fiddles, accordion, piano, harmonica, mandolin, guitar, bass and foot percussion, the four women will perform a lively repertoire of jigs, reels and other dance tunes from their native Prince Edward Island. Several of Maine’s most popular female dance leaders will share the calling. The evening will culminate with a nonstop dance medley from 11 to 11:30 p.m. Admission is $8, $5 for students. For more information, call 513-3050.
