RUMFORD – A public hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the town hall auditorium for phase two of the Community Development Block Grant.
The hearing, which is a grant requirement, will precede the regularly scheduled Board of Selectmen meeting, which starts at 7 p.m.
Earlier this year, Rumford won $200,000 for housing assistance through Maine’s block grant program. The money will be put toward repairs and fire code upgrades on 28 buildings identified by the town during last winter’s application process.
Among agenda items up for discussion during the selectmen meeting are:
• Scheduling a special town meeting to vote on federally mandated changes to the flood plain ordinance;
• Revisiting the twice-tabled request for funding for the River Valley Technology Center;
• Considering an easement request from Central Maine Power Co.
Town Manager Carlo Puiia said Wednesday that he expects selectmen to continue discussion with tech center directors about their request for a $25,000 donation to help underwrite $60,000 in operational expenses such as heat and electricity.
“I expect they’ll come back with some financial information as requested,” Puiia said.
According to a March 27 letter to former town manager Len Greaney, CMP is requesting additional easement rights for a widening of its transmission line.
The company is offering $6,975 for 3 acres to widen its corridor from 100 feet to 150 feet to support the delivery of energy generated from wind-power farms.
The offer includes timber that can be harvested along the narrow strip, according to letter-writer Paul N. Fecteau, a real estate broker.
The transmission corridor crosses Isthmus Road just beyond St. John’s Cemetery.
