100 years ago, 1909

In one of the Main Street windows of the Great Department Store this week are being given demonstrations of the beneficial results of wearing the Imperial Health brace. Dr. McClemming, the inventor, and a demonstrator are in the city explaining the merits of the brace. Large crowds are attracted to the window each day and evening to witness the demonstrations.


50 years ago, 1959

Ground is expected to be broken shortly for construction of a large retail clothing store of the Robert Hall chain on Main Street, Lewiston. Two warranty deeds covering land at 705 and 707 Main St. were filed yesterday at the Androscoggin County Registry of Deeds. One is from Mrs. Ida Sullivan to Superican Inc., New York, and the other is from Romano Realty Inc., Portland, to Superican Inc. The latter is a holding company for the Robert Hall concern. The clothing store will be the first by the Robert Hall chain in Maine.


25 years ago, 1984

To kick off the beginning of the summer season, the Auburn Mall Merchants Association is sponsoring the appearance of two soap-opera stars from the top-rated ABC serial “All My Children” at 3 p.m. Saturday. James Mitchell, who plays the character of Palmer Cortlandt, a wealthy, domineering and possessive father; and Robert Gentry, better known as Ross Chandler, the alleged relative of the villainous Adam Chandler, will be at the mall.
