JAY – Two residents plan to discuss an idea Monday with selectmen to establish a dog park in town.
One of the residents, Lisa Bryant said fellow resident Dan Smiley came up with the idea to develop a fenced-in, off-leash dog park so people could exercise their dogs and socialize them.
Bryant, the town’s finance director and secretary of the Jay, Livermore, Livermore Falls Chamber of Commerce, said they are exploring opportunities for a suitable site to lease and plan to ask selectmen if there is any town land available that may be used.
“It’s in the beginning stages,” Bryant said. “We’re looking for volunteers and donations for fencing.”
The idea is not only for local people to use the park but build on economic development by getting people who are passing through town with their dogs to stop and maybe do some shopping, she said.
“We’re just trying to think of a way of helping to bring people to the area,” she said. “An awful lot of people go through here.”
The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. June 22 at the town office.
