NORTH CONWAY, N.H. – Glenice Margaret (Oakes) Gardner, 83, of Conway, N.H., died June 18, at Mineral Springs.

She was born July 10, 1925, in Mexico, the daughter of the late Derril Haysdon Oakes and Mary Ada (Cutting) Oakes. She was the eldest of three daughters.

Before her marriage to John L. Gardner in 1952, she worked for Rumford Light and Power of Rumford. A loving wife and mother, she cared for her family as they followed John’s paper mill accounting career, from Maine, to Massachusetts, Connecticut and Gorham, N.H.

She was a life-long coin collector and avid reader. She loved animals and animals could sense that in her. She enjoyed brook fishing. Her interest in antiques resulted in the opening of “Glen Gardner Antiques” in Gorham, N.H., in the 1970s. She was well-read, interesting and insightful. Her good spirit will be deeply missed by family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John L. Gardner of Conway; a son, John D. Gardner of Conway; two sisters, Carol Swan and her husband, Roger, of Mexico and Lorna Albert and her husband, Joseph, of Las Vegas, Nev.; a grandchild, Kelly Gardner of Rochester, N.Y.; and several nieces and cousins.
