NORWAY – Norway Memorial Library’s Young Adult Services is planning summer activities for area teens around the theme “Express Yourself @ Your Library!” that will include books, gardening, art and writing.
Book Buzz, the book group begun in spring for teens in grades nine to 12, will meet from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, at the library to discuss Kurt Vonnegut’s “Slaughterhouse Five.”
The group will help choose the books for the next discussions on July 23 and Aug. 13.
A summer book group for teens entering grades seven and eight next fall will begin on Thursday, June 25, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Youths are invited to attend with a book they want to discuss and then will decide whether to choose a new book for the whole group to read or continue to make their own selections. The group will also meet on July 23 and Aug. 13.
The library’s Teen Activity Group replanted flowers in May and now staff needs volunteers to keep them healthy. They are making a rotating schedule for teens to take turns with the responsibilities of watering, weeding and feeding. The activity is open to teens in grades seven to 12 in the fall.
Teens will be able express themselves through art at the Norway Art Festival’s first Teen Art Area behind Fare Share from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 11.
The library will be there to offer two art activities for teens. “Espresso Self” is painting with coffee. The process is a lot like watercolor painting, but creates a sepia-colored piece of artwork. “Open-Ended Art” will include all sorts of interesting materials to inspire imagination and creativity.
A three-part creative writing program will take place from 3:30 to 5 p.m. July 16, 21 and 28 at the library. The program will use a combination of writing prompts, story scenarios and visuals. The program is for teens entering grades seven to 12 in the fall.
All programs except the July art activities require registration. For more information or to register, call the library at 743-5309.
