Lois L. Gould
1925 – 2009
FARMINGTON — Lois L. Gould, 84, of Kingfield died Monday, June 22, at Sandy River Center for Health Care after a long illness, where she had been a resident since January 2007.
She was born May 15, 1925, in Kingfield, the daughter of John and Dorothy E. (Crocker) Harris. She was educated in the schools of Kingfield. She worked for the Franklin Journal for more than 30 years and was the editor of the Journal for 20 years. She was the first women selectmen of Kingfield serving for 14 years. Her goal as selectman was to clean up the Carrabassett River and did so over a period of years.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church in North Anson. She enjoyed gardening, woodworking, fishing and was an excellent cook and liked to share it with others.
She is survived by two sons, Carroll Gould and his wife, Linda, of Cornville and Arthur Gould and his wife, Marita, of Cornville; three sisters, Marilyn Oliver of Kingfield, Marjorie Whittier of Monmouth and Sylvia English of Kingfield; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
