PARIS — Celebration Barn Theater’s new Meet the Artists series will welcome New York theater artist John Murphy at 8 p.m. Friday, July 3. He will share his work with masks and archetypes and offer his insights into developing interesting characters on stage.
Visiting performers and teaching artists will share insights on how they create new work, where their inspiration meets their craft and what drives them in their exploration of live theater. These presentations will include performances by the artists and demonstrations by current Celebration Barn students.
At the end of the presentation, audiences will have the opportunity to ask questions.
Building upon his master of arts degree in theater and dance, Murphy studied at the schools of Jacques Lecoq and Etienne Decroux in Paris under a Fulbright-Hays Award. During his 17-year stay abroad, he wrote, acted and directed for the stage; acted in Italian films, television and commercials; performed with circus and variety shows in Germany; conducted research in physical theater; and taught theater and movement studies internationally.
Murphy co-authored several plays while working with the Italian theateer company Panna Acida, joining forces with other writers, actors and technicians in creating a contemporary theatrical dramaturgy. In Italy and Denmark, he directed a variety of plays.
Murphy lives in New York City with his wife and two children. He teaches privately and at New School University.
Tickets are $8. Celebration Barn Theater is on Stock Farm Road. For more information, call the box office at 743-8452 or visit www.CelebrationBarn.com.
