LEWISTON — Inbound call center ACS is adding 130 full-time positions to its Lewiston office, a spokesman said Wednesday.
“We could have put the work at any one of 142 existing locations,” or built new, said Chris Gilligan. “We’re happy with the work talent we found in Lewiston”
Gilligan, in ACS corporate communications, said the hiring was spurred by two ACS clients, whom he declined to name, seeing more business.
“Our client says they need to grow and we’re making it happen,” he said.
ACS, located on East Avenue in the former Ames department store, currently employs 260 people.
In March 2008, the company had announced plans to hire 200 people, “a goal that did not materialize,” Gilligan said. “These (130) positions are happening – we are recruiting and accepting applications and hiring.”
The jobs come with benefits, he said, and involve shift work. Starting pay is “above minimum wage.” Most of the positions as customer care agents involve answering calls with questions about products or services, Gilligan said.
