Mary S. Groleau
1913 – 2009
WILTON — Mary S. Groleau, 96, of Livermore Falls, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, June 23, at her daughter’s home in Wilton, surrounded by her children.
She was born in Chisholm, on Jan. 28, 1913, the oldest daughter of Frank and Mary (Frola) Slovak. She was baptized at St. Rose of Lima church, where she was a lifelong communicant and dedicated member of the choir.
On Oct. 23, 1939, she married Clarence E. Groleau, who predeceased her in 1996.
In addition to being a devoted wife and mother of seven children, she was a musician and piano teacher well into her 80’s. Her hobbies included gardening, bird feeding, record keeping and quilting.
In 1966, she joined the Livermore Falls Senior Citizens and was the groups’ piano accompanist for more than 40 years.
She leaves behind her daughters, Elise Roy Hobbs and her husband, Dr. Rick Hobbs, of Waterville, Ann Ibarguen and her husband, Bruce, of Wilton and Teresa Winter of Chesterfield, N.H.; sons, Francis and his wife, Wadja, of Dalton, Mass., and John and his wife, Ellen, of Winterport; a brother, Joseph and his wife, Dora, of Jay; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her daughters, Paula and Lucille; her brother, Frank; and sisters, Hattie, Bessie and Leda.
