DIXFIELD — Ethel Minnie Child, 97, of West Peru, died Thursday, June 25, in Dixfield.
She was born in Weld on Oct. 10, 1911, the daughter of Oliver and Lelia (Holt) Welch, and attended Dixfield Schools.
She had attended the Peru Baptist Church and was a member of the Dixfield American Legion Auxiliary. Ethel helped to organize and was a charter member of the first Mother’s Club in Peru.
She was married in Rumford on Oct. 25, 1928, to Floyd D. Child who died Nov. 21, 1998.
Survivors include daughters, Carol Cayer and husband, Paul, of Peru, and Linda Knowles and husband, Richard, of Dixfield; sons, John Child and wife, Lorna, of Carthage, and James Childs and wife, Glynda, of Dixfield; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Anita Reynolds of Dixfield.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Gloria Walker; a son, Charles Child; brothers, John Welch, Kenneth Welch and Percy Welch; sisters, Kathlyn Horne, Lorraine Smith, Barbara Gagnon, Isabelle Knox and Mae Magoon.
