Arthur Child Sr.
1937 – 2009
EAST WILTON — Arthur Child Sr., 71, of East Wilton , died early Sunday, June 28, at his home.
He was born Aug. 11, 1937, the son of Marshall Bernard and Inez Edith (Porter) Child. He received his education in Peru and Dixfield schools and on July 18, 1954, married the love of his life, Joanne I. Pease in Carthage at the Carthage Union Church.
He worked at International Paper and then owned and operated Arthur Child and Sons excavation and logging business before going to work at Otis Specialty Papers. He was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and snowmobiling. He loved attending bluegrass music festivals and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of the Dixfield Seventh-Day Adventist Church and the Wilton Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joanne of East Wilton; children, Arthur Child Jr. and his fiancé, Patricia Ladd of Farmington, George Child and his wife, Rachel, of Gaithersburg, Md., Justine Child of East Wilton, Michael Child of East Wilton and Lynn O’Connor and her husband, Bob, of Farmington; grandchildren, Rebecca Swan of Dixfield, G. Ryan Child of Gaithersburg, Md., Bradley Child of Collegedale, Tenn., and Larissa Moulton of Oceanside, Calif.; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ann Weston of Wilton and Barbara Allen of Florida.
He was predeceased by a grandson, Patrick O’Connor.
