BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) — ESPN has released college basketball analyst Tom Brennan with one year left on his three-year contract.

The 60-year-old Brennan, a former head coach at the University of Vermont, spent four years as an in-studio analyst for ESPN after leaving the Catamounts. The Bristol, Conn.,-based cable sports network is trimming costs with layoffs and wage freezes.

Once named “Best Television Newcomer” by Sports Illustrated, Brennan says he had a great four years at ESPN and that it’s a very professional organization.

He told the Burlington Free Press he knew it was a possibility that his contract wouldn’t be renewed.
