MEXICO – The seventh annual Rotary/River Valley Chamber of Commerce/Franklin Savings Bank golf tournament tees off at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Oakdale Country Club.
The event is a major fundraiser for Rotary scholarships for area students and to help the chamber with its many promotional activities, said Rich Allen, chairman of the Golf Committee.
He said last year, $4,500 was raised for each of the beneficiaries.
He said 18 teams of four men or women each take part in the five-hour tournament on the nine-hole golf course. While most teams come from the River Valley area, several come from the Bethel area, including a team from the Bethel Rotary Club for the first time this year.
Each of the 18 teams are sponsored by area businesses.
Planning for the event usually begins in March, and the tournament is always held on the first Tuesday after the Fourth of July.
Allen said nearly a dozen volunteers are essential to the success of the benefit event.
