RANGELEY — Pianist Andy Kahn of Philadelphia, who performed at Evenings of Music from 2004 through 2006, returns for a solo performance at this year’s Evening of Music at 7 p.m., July 11 at the Wilhelm Reich Museum conference center.
Kahn’s repertoire will feature tunes from the songbooks of Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, George Gershwin, Richard Rodgers and Lorenzo Hart. And because be-bop and classic jazz are both based upon American standard songs written by these and other master composers, Kahn will also play some of his favorite jazz selections as well as his own jazz improvisations. Sharing anecdotes and special elements about these songs lend a personal touch as Kahn guides his audience through America’s unique contribution to the arts: “Jazz and the Standard Song.”
Admission is $10 for adults and $3 for children 12 and under. Refreshments will be served. Tickets are available at the museum office and bookstore and the Rangeley Chamber of Commerce. The center is located on Dodge Pond Road in Rangelely.
