LEWISTON — The Sons of the American Legion posts in Central Maine have joined with the United Valley American Red Cross to create a video donation program called Movies for Soldiers.
Bruce Bragdon, 9th district commander, started the program locally at the Oakland Squadron 51 last September. As of May 15, more than 1,500 DVDs, VHS and CDs have been sent to U.S. troops serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and Kuwait.
The cost of shipping the videos has been covered by donations from various Sons of the American Legion posts in Central Maine and the logistics for the packing, shipping and receipt of materials has been orchestrated by the United Valley Red Cross Services to Armed Forces program.
