WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers not to eat some pistachios distributed to airports and hotels nationwide as the nuts may have been exposed to salmonella.
The FDA said Monday that consumers shouldn’t eat California Prime Produce and Orange County Orchards brands of pistachios repacked by Orca Distribution West Inc. Orca had received and repacked pistachios that were earlier recalled by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella Inc.
As a result, the pistachios may be contaminated with salmonella, an organism that can cause serious or fatal infections in some people. Symptoms of salmonella include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
The products were packaged in clear six-ounce flexible Ziploc bags with sell-by dates of July 30 and Aug. 30.
The FDA has recalled more than 660 items associated with the Terra Bella recall.
