LEWISTON — Wanda Grandmaison, a teacher assistant with Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care, was awarded the Fridelle Peterson Award at Androscoggin Head Start’s recent Employee Wellness Day.
The award is given in memory of Delle Peterson, a sixteen-year employee of Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care. Peterson was devoted to Head Start’s children and families, and her compassionate and professional delivery of direct services exemplifies the honor of this award.
Nominated by her co-workers and selected by the Peterson family, Grandmaison was presented the award by Don Peterson, Delle’s husband, and their daughter Lauren Rose-Cohen, along with grandsons Jonas Sincere, 17 months, and Freedom, 5 months.
Grandmaison began working for Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care in 2005 at the Tri-Town Center, located in Mechanic Falls.
She is a teacher assistant in Head Start’s classroom at Walton Elementary School in Auburn. She has completed both the Child Development Associate and Maine Early Childhood guidelines.
She said, “I am a very small part of a stupendous team that supports every effort to help young children in our community get a head start. I am extremely honored and thankful.”  She lives in New Auburn with her husband John and dog Sadie.
