This Auburn property owned by Gordon Marshall, one of seven on the Maine Music Society’s Home and Garden Tour Saturday, July 11, features a striking red Japanese maple, gazebo and two ponds edged with stone with a waterfall, fountain and aquatic plants. A wide variety of hardy perennials, trees and bushes fill raised beds. The garden also contains a moss-covered, patchwork cement patio and a shade garden. The tour will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine. Throughout the day, Joyce Coyne and other artists will paint in Gerry and Pam Hamann’s garden in New Gloucester. At 11 a.m. Dan Marquis, a widely traveled nature photographer and field trip leader of the Stanton Bird Club, will give a talk on "Birds in the Garden" in his garden in Lewiston. At noon, Ryan Marshall will play keyboard in Marshall’s garden in Auburn. Tickets, $12, may be purchased in advance at the L/A Arts office (call 782-7228), Provencher’s Landscape and Nursery, Mr. Paperback, Ivy Cottage, and Lewiston-Auburn Hannaford and Shaw’s supermarkets. For tickets the day of the tour, $14, go to either Provencher’s Landscape and Nursery or the Courtyard Memorial Garden at Lewiston High School. The home and garden tour is a fundraiser for the Maine Music Society.
