Robert J. Elliott
1931 – 2009
PORTLAND — Robert J. Elliott, 78, of Strong died Sunday, July 12, at Maine Medical Center.
He was born April 4, 1931, in Rumford, the son of Lila Badershall. He was educated in the schools of Strong and a graduate of Strong High School, Class of 1950. He married Betty Cook Dec. 22, 1950. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1950 to 1953, stationed in Cuba. He was self-employed as a lumberman and later drove tractor-trailer for Pioneer Plastics for 30 years, traveling to every state except Alaska and Hawaii before retiring.
He was a member of the Strong American Legion Post 178 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He had made his home in Strong all his life. He enjoyed working, fishing and camping.
He is survived by his wife, Betty of Strong; three sons, Ronald Elliott and his wife, Meridell, of Strong, Albert Elliott and his fiancé, Sandy, of Wilton and James Elliott and his wife, Kim, of Strong; two daughters, Barbara Blake and her husband, Dennis, of Freeman and Cheryl Elliott and fiancé, Lincoln, of Dixfield; sister, Madeline Tyler of Strong; grandchildren, Robert, Scott, Nathan, Al, Madeena, Maggie, Ryan and Elliott; great-grandchildren, Lauren, Kaitlynn, Madalynn and Albert.
He was predeceased by a brother, Lewellyn Badershall.
