Richard D. Collins Sr.
1931 – 2009
MONMOUTH — Richard D. Collins Sr., 78, a resident of Old Lewiston Road, Monmouth, died Monday, July 13, unexpectedly at his home.
He was born April 16, 1931, in Chelsea, the son of Bertie and Evelyn (Pratt) Collins. He attended school in Clinton. He joined the U.S. Marines Corps serving from 1948 to 1952 during the Korean War. He received a Purple Heart during his tour.
He worked as an automobile mechanic at Bob Barrows in Winthrop; and later worked as a carpenter at Camp Cobbossee in Monmouth. He enjoyed the times he spent hunting and salt water fishing with his good friend, Robert Godbout.
He is survived by three children, Richard Collins Jr., Scott Collins and Bonnie Collins; three brothers, Harold Collins of Gardiner, Mike Collins of New Hampshire, and Larry Collins of Greene; two half brothers, Phillip Collins of Somerville and Everett Collins of Massachusetts: five sisters, Fern Clark of Somerville, Pauline Castle of Vassalboro, Doris Grove of Benton Jeannette Leclair of Augusta and Angie Strand of Washington State; and many nieces and nephews.
