A Wilton native and daughter of a retired University of Maine Farmington
professor has thrown her name into the hat in the upcoming race for the Blaine House.

Rosa Scarcelli, a businesswoman from Portland, announced Monday that
she will be a candidate for governor in next June’s Maine Democratic
Primary. The 39-year-old mother of three is the owner and CEO of
Stanford Management, a company that provides quality, affordable
housing in more than 30 Maine communities, including Farmington,
Dixfield and Turner.

Her father, John Scarcelli, taught art, art history and film at UMF until his retirement in 2006.

“I’m running because I think the people of Maine want a change,”
Scarcelli said of her decision to jump into the race with no political
experience to speak of. “They want someone who has real, practical
experience running a company and creating jobs.”

Scarcelli promises to bring a fresh approach to politics because she
doesn’t consider herself an “Augusta veteran.” Although she has not
held a political office, she pointed out that she wants to use her
experience building a successful business that employs 65 people in
Maine, and boasts 100 employees across four states.

In a news release issued on her Web site, www.RosaForMaine.com, Scarcelli said she would use her business skills to create a better climate in Maine for job creation and growth.

“I would run the state in a way that takes our limited resources and makes them go further and allows them to be invested where they can provide a return,” Scarcelli said.

Scarcelli filed papers declaring her candidacy Monday with the Maine Secretary of State’s Office.
