- The Lewiston-Auburn area Baha’i community hosted a public meeting on June 22 at the Auburn Public Library to raise awareness of the human rights situation in Iran. The meeting was organized on the first year anniversary of arrest and imprisonment of Baha’i leadership in that country. Lewiston Mayor Larry Gilbert was the keynote speaker. He applauded the Maine elected delegates for cosponsoring resolutions in both the Senate and the House and for their continued condemnation of the government of Iran for their stance against peaceful minorities, especially the Baha’is. The Baha’i representative expressed concern for unfair treatment of women, journalists and free thinkers in that country. For more information, visit www.bahai.org.
