Gregory D. Guay, son of Lisa and Jeff Pengel of Durham and Daniel Guay of Greene, graduated cum laude from the College of Charleston, S.C., on May 10.

Guay received two awards: the first a departmental award from the School of the Arts based on community service, merits and academic achievements; the second from the Melvin H. and Virginia Peacock Goodwin Award for instrumental performance.

After a summer trek through Europe, Guay has accepted a scholarship and assistantship at the Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C., for the fall.
