Arnold L. Woolf
1928 — 2009

AUBURN — Arnold L. Woolf, 81, formerly of 198 Russell St., Lewiston, died Sunday morning, Aug. 2, at the Hospice House of Androscoggin.

He was born in New York City on April 29, 1928, the son of Michael and Jean (Steinberg) Woolf. He was raised and educated in Westchester County, N.Y. For over 50 years he worked as an office manager and controller, as well as being self-employed at Woolf Business Services.

He married the former Crystal E. McIntire on Nov. 17, 1994. She died on Feb. 16, 2009.

He was a renowned American Kennal Club dog show judge for almost 50 years — officiating throughout the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. He authored three canine books and was an award winning dog columnist with Gannet Newspapers. He also served on the executive committee of the Collie Club of America and president of the Lewiston-Auburn Kennel Club.

Arnold was an active participant in the local, county and state Democratic Party, as well as many other organizations. He was an Auburn Housing commissioner, member of the Lewiston-Auburn Transit Committee, chairman of the Auburn Post Office Customer Advisory Council, a member of the Foster Grandparents Association advisory board and president of the Kiwanis Club of Middle Island, N.Y.

He received the Air Force Commendation Medal for his service as a civilian supervisor, Ground Observer Corps during the Korean War.

He is survived by two sons, Emmett Woolf and his wife, Ruth, of Virginia, and Michael Woolf and his wife, Lisa, of Lewiston; two daughters, Jeanne Woodruff and her husband, Forest, of Baileyville, and Claudia Cleveland and her husband, Jesse, of Texas; three stepdaughters, Kathie Dubois and her husband, Reggie, of Greene, Carman Thompson of Auburn, and Lolita Blanchard of Winthrop; three stepsons, Raymond Butler of Chicago, Danny Butler of Florida, and Douglas McIntire and his wife, Alissa, of Greene; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, Jack Woolf, and a sister, Roslyn Waldman.
