Red Sox recall Traber from Triple-A
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The Boston Red Sox have recalled left-hander Billy Traber from Triple-A Pawtucket.
Red Sox manager Terry Francona made the announcement before Wednesday night’s game at Tampa Bay.
Traber will work out of the bullpen. Boston used all of its relievers in a 4-2, 13-inning loss on Tuesday against Tampa Bay.
Rookie outfielder Josh Reddick was optioned to Pawtucket. He went 5 of 16 with a homer and two RBIs in four games.
Also, knuckleballer Tim Wakefield, out since July 18 with a lower back strain and left calf injury, threw his first bullpen session.
Left fielder Jason Bay was back in the starting lineup Wednesday after missing two games with a mildly strained right hamstring.
