MEXICO — Members and employees of Oxford Federal Credit Union support Special Olympics Maine.
Penny Smith, Special Olympics athlete, and Phil Geelhoed, president, Special Olympics Maine, received a check for $550 from the credit union.

The donation came from proceeds of the credit union’s lobby coin counter, where  5 percent of each member transaction is donated to charities in which the credit union participates.

Smith wrote and read a story about how Special Olympics helped transform her life, from a childhood where she was the victim of bullying to a young woman who now has an apartment and works three jobs. By participating in the athletic events through the years, she said she has self-confidence and motivation to live a full and productive life.
