BRUNSWICK — VSA arts of Maine has announced the 2009 young soloists award call for entries

VSA arts of Maine, an affiliate of VSA arts, a program of the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, is seeking outstanding musicians from the state who have a disability to enter the 2009 Young Soloists Award competition. The top entry in Maine will receive a $200 stipend and will move on to compete in the VSA arts national competition, with an opportunity to win $5,000 and a performance in Washington, D.C.

VSA arts of Maine is a nonprofit organization providing innovative and inclusive arts, educational and cultural opportunities for children and adults with disabilities in Maine. Programs include artist residencies in schools, workshops for teachers and artists, mentoring for adult artists with disabilities, exhibitions by artists with disabilities, and partnerships with cultural venues throughout the state to improve accessibility.

VSA arts of Maine is in the process of merging with ArtVan, the unique arts program that brings art activities to public housing developments, Head Start centers, schools and group homes in Bath, Brunswick, Biddeford and Lewiston-Auburn.
