Benefit event

NORTH TURNER — A benefit supper, dance and Chinese auction for Mark Hume will be held on Saturday, Aug. 22, at BQMC, Route 219. Hume has cystic fibrosis and is currently waiting for a double lung transplant at Brigham and Woman’s Hospital in Boston, Mass. Proceeds from the benefit are for expenses not covered by insurance. Hume is a 1989 graduate of Leavitt Area High School, a graduate of CMCC and an Eagle Scout.

The baked bean supper will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m.; cost is $6. The BYOB dance will go from 7 to 11 p.m and the cost is $6. The DJs will be Lena Bragg and Marji Sylvester. Support nonprofits

 PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — Irving Oil has announced the New England
Neighbor Initiative campaign featuring an online contest to support
nonprofits.

Individuals can visit irvingoil.com/neighbor and
nominate local nonprofit programs or organizations to receive a $2000
grant from Irving. A total of 12 nonprofits from across all of New
England will each receive a grant. The winning individual nominators
will receive a $200 Irving gas card and the first 1,000 people who make
a nomination will receive an Irving fuel discount card worth 25 cents
off each gallon.

The initiative runs through Monday, Aug. 31.
