STRONG — For the past seven years, Mary White and her family have gathered and stored donations from all over the state for an anticipated event.
They pack their garage and storage sheds with dozens of boxes of items for one of the biggest yard sales in Franklin County. Proceeds go to one or more nonprofit, and this year’s effort will benefit at least three groups, White said.
“From July 27 to Aug. 4, proceeds will be donated to the Franklin County Animal Shelter’s spay and neuter program,” she said. “Proceeds until Aug. 11 will go to the Strong Fire Department to buy tables and chairs, and proceeds until the 18th will go to help pay for presents for the town’s annual kids’ Christmas party.”
White said she expects to be open for business at her home on Route 4 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day. “We’re at 195 Phillips Road, a little less that two miles north of the Sandy River bridge,” she said.
White said the entire event is an example of quiet but dedicated community support from all over western and central Maine.
“One year, we got enough money to buy uniforms for the entire Strong volunteer fire department,” she said. “Last year, we made a large donation to the Relay For Life programs.”
Donations to date include furniture, appliances, children’s toys and clothing, tools and construction materials, and the usual yard sale items, and almost everything can be purchased by donations, she said.
