LEWISTON — Raymond A. Geiger Elementary School will hold an orientation for students and parents beginning at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. The new school opens on Aug. 26.

At the orientation, parents and students can meet teachers, learn procedures for dropping off students and get a feel for the location of classrooms, the cafeteria and the gym.

“We want to ensure that opening day of school is exciting but not one of anxiety for students and teachers,” Superintendent Leon Levesque said.

Two more open houses will be scheduled for the community. The public is invited to a community open house from 9 to noon on Saturday, Sept. 12. A formal dedication, remembering the founder, will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 16.

The new school will hold students and staff from the old Pettingill School, which has closed, and from Montello Elementary, relieving overcrowding at that school.
