Thomas W. Lonergan

1924 – 2009

AUGUSTA — Thomas W. Lonergan, 84, of Stanley Drive, Lisbon, died Friday, Aug. 21, at Maine Veterans’ Home in Augusta.

He was born on Oct. 17, 1924, in Lewiston, a son of David P. and Edith W. (O’Connell) Lonergan. He was educated in Lewiston and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1943. Mr. Lonergan served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.

He married Irene Giguere in 1946 and together they raised their family.

Mr. Lonergan was employed for many years as a schoolbus driver for the town of Lisbon.

He was a communicant of Holy Trinity Parish of Lisbon Falls, member of the Knights of Columbus Council at Holy Trinity Church, member of the American Legion Post 158 of Lisbon for 39 years, was very active with umpiring in Lisbon for the Little League teams, softball teams and also school teams.

He was a talented artist and his paintings and a model boat he had made were placed on display in the Lisbon Falls Community Library. Mr. Lonergan also enjoyed sewing and would often make clothing for his wife and would also make his own shirts.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Irene (Giguere) Lonergan, of Augusta; two sons, John F. Lonergan of Mansfield, Mass., and Timothy J. Lonergan of Las Vegas, Nev.; two nieces, Stacy Costelli of Plainview, Mass., and Stephanie Rosselli of Freetown, Mass.; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
