MECHANIC FALLS — Mechanic Falls-Minot-Poland Adult Education is offering a variety of general interest courses during the fall semester. Areas of interest include health and fitness, safety, art/crafts, home improvement and computer. Preregistration is required for all classes and can be done either by phone or on-line at http://mechanicfalls.maineadulted.org.
Courses offered beginning in September are:
ATV/Snowmobile Education: learn how to operate and maintain an ATV and a snowmobile. Laws and responsibilities, map and compass, environmental/landowner ethics, personal safety, first aid and survival skills will be covered. Exam and 100 percent attendance required. Children must be at least age 10 years and, if 15 or under, must be accompanied by an adult. The course will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, Sept. 15, 16 and 17. Fee $5.
Hunter Safety: The state is offering a certificate in hunter and gun safety. State law requires the course if applying for a first-time license. Participants will learn about laws, safety, map and compass and landowner relations. Class will meet from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20. Exam and perfect attendance required. Fee $5.
Introductory and Intermediate Belly Dance: used for exercise, two levels of courses will be offered on Tuesdays, introduction from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and intermediate from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., beginning Sept. 15. Fee $15 for a six-week session.
Fitness for Life: step aerobics and resistance exercises for tone and strength from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursdays, beginning Sept. 17. Fee $25 for a six-week session.
Detoxing for Fall: prepare for fall by learning detoxing techniques, infrared saunas, ion foot detoxes and colon cleansing. Class from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30. Fee $.
Painting on Silk: learn how to paint on silk. Drawing ability a must. Class will be weather permitting. Classes from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays, Sept. 19 and 26. Fee: registration $12, plus lab fee of $28 (includes silk hoops kit).
Solar Technologies: information on solar hot air, hot water and electricity. How they work, how much they cost, and how much they can safe. Information on state rebates and federal tax credits will also be available. Class will meet from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29. Fee $6.
Enter the World of e-mail: learn how to communicate by e-mail and send attachments to friends and family. Held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15. Fee $16.
Basic Internet Use: become familiar with the Internet and how to use it to find information. Held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22. Fee $16.
Facebook: find old friends, share with family and stay in touch. E-mail addresses required. Meeting from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17. Fee $16.
