Vesper service
NORWAY — “If you knew, as I do, the power of giving, you would not let a single meal pass without sharing some of it,” a saying of the Buddha, is one quotation from a diversity of religious/spiritual traditions that will be used to underline “Generosity,” the subject of the vesper service being offered Sunday, Aug. 30, at the First Universalist Church of Norway.
The Universalist churches of Norway and West Paris summer Sunday vesper services are held at 6:30 p.m. and alternate between the two churches located at 479 Main St. in Norway and 128 Main St. in West Paris. For more information, call 743-2828 or visit www.norwayuu.org.
Society supper
LOCKE MILLS — The Greenwood Historical Society will meet for a potluck supper at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the historical building, Main Street. A short meeting will follow. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share and utensils. Plans will be made for the lawn sale on Saturday, Sept. 12.
Free workshops
PARIS — The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will host free workshops, “Essentials of College Planning,” at the following times and locations: South Paris Career Center, 232 Main St., at 10 a.m. Mondays, Sept. 14 and 28, and Rumford Career Center, 35 Congress St., at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21.

Auction rescheduled
NORWAY — Terri Linell, Norway Business Association president, has announced that the annual auction, originally scheduled for Aug. 22, will be held on Saturday, Aug. 29, with a rain date of Saturday, Sept. 5. The auction will take place in the Beals Tavern parking lot (next to L.F. Pike) from 4 p.m. until all items are gone.
Auctioneers will be Sharon Bouchard of the Sun Journal and Frank Shorey of Main Street Furniture and Appliances. Part of the auction proceeds will go to Christmas for Kids. Auction items are still being accepted. Bring lawn chairs.
Legion to meet
PARIS — Foster Carroll Post 72, American Legion, and Auxiliary will meet Wednesday, Sept. 9, with a potluck supper at 6 p.m. followed by the meetings at 7. Applications for membership are available at the post or by contacting Commander Dominik Klinger at 674-3014.
Meetings are held the second Wednesday each month and executive meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday at 6 p.m. All members are invited.
Library speaker
WEST PARIS — Marjorie Ferguson of Otisfield, tester for Therapy Dogs Inc., and her dog, Sam, will be speaker at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Whitman Memorial Library.
Ferguson will talk about the program and her work. Alta Pierce of West Paris and her therapy dog, Fritz, will also be a guest. Pierce will talk about Fritz and his visits at the local nursing home, where he entertains residents and nurses. The program is open to the public free and light refreshments will be served.
