Today’s savings: $60

Insurance companies charge a small processing fee when you pay your life, car, home or other insurance monthly (or quarterly), so you can save money by paying these bills annually, eliminating these monthly fees. It’ll take a little planning to have that much cash on hand to pay for each policy a year in advance, so arrange to stagger insurance bills to come due at various times during the year.

If you have two insurance policies and pay each of them monthly, submitting a $2.50 processing fee with each payment, you’re paying $60 each year for processing using the installment method. Paying three policies in advance saves $90 in fees. Four? $120 in savings.

And, there’s no risk. If you cancel the policy or change carriers, you’re entitled to a refund of the amount remaining on the policy.
