OTISFIELD – The Otisfield 4th of July Parade will take place on Saturday, July 4, with a theme of “A Family Fourth.” The Spurrs Corner Church will offer breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m.
There will be a bake sale, and items are welcome. There will also be pies to buy, and there will be two pie contests: “Mom’s Apple Pie” and “Family Favorites.” Bakers should bring their pies in a disposable pan, labeled with the type of pie, name and telephone number.
After winners are announced, all pies will be sold to raise funds for the Kerry Grover Memorial Fund. Pie donations to raise funds are always welcome and do not have to be submitted in either contest.
For more information, call George Galarneau at 890-4674.
In addition to ribbons, winners will also receive gift cards in the following amounts: grand prize, $100; first, $75; second, $50; and third, $25.
Parade set-up will start at 9 a.m. south of Spurr’s Corner Fire Station on Route 121 in Cutler’s field. Parade time is 10, and it leads to the Spurr’s Corner Fire Station. Frank Bleauvelt will be grand marshal this year. The 2009 Otisfield 4th of July T-shirts will be available at the fire station.
Activities will continue at the fire station after the parade, including a red, white and blue water salute by the fire department, music, a watermelon seed-spitting contest, face painting, pie contest and free popsicles and bottled water. Maine Highland Fiddlers will offer entertainment.
