Baby Olympics

POLAND — Hope House will sponsor the third Baby Olympics, from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 5, at Range Pond State Park. A free barbecue will follow. Ten different events from baby crawl races to scooter derbies will feature children ages 3 months to 5 years. Parents can register their children until the events start, either by contacting Hope House or just by showing up to the event.

All participants will receive prizes and medals, and winners will get special gifts. Spectators are welcome, at no charge, to watch or participate. The community is invited to come out and cheer on the little athletes, as well as to celebrate the work of Hope House in helping babies grow strong.

Grant requests

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Auburn Children’s Foundation is accepting grant requests for the 2009 fiscal year. The foundation annually awards grants to individuals and organizations that provide services to children in the Lewiston-Auburn community.

Some of the grant recipients of the past year were the SHARE Center, YMCA’s Quick Start Tennis Program, the Androscoggin Head Start Lead Screening Program, the Art Van Program at the Lewiston Public Library and Lots to Gardens Youth and Children’s programming.

LEWISTON — The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will host a free workshop on “Essentials of College Planning” at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the Lewiston CareerCenter, 5 Mollison Way.

Bridge play

LEWISTON — The Lewiston-Auburn Duplicate Bridge Club met on Sept. 1 at the Multi-Purpose Center. Flight A winners were: first, David Lock and Rosemarie Goodwin; second, Marta Clements and Hazel Glazier; third, Paul Sherman and Leslie Buzzell; fourth, Ron and Connie Reynolds; fifth, Mike Quinn and Luke Merry. Flight B winners were: Marta Clements and Hazel Glazier; second, Ron and Connie Reynolds; third, Helen Little and Roger Labbe. Flight C winners were Helen Little and Roger Labbe. Another game will be played at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the center.

There was no game held at Schooner Estates in Auburn on Sept. 3. A game will be played at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9 at Schooner Estates. A partner is guaranteed at both games. For further information, call Lucille Theriault at 783-0431.
